Bonding is an aesthetic correction of one or several teeth, usually those visible when smiling. It is applied in cases of minor imperfections, such as discoloration, shape irregularities, or slight orthodontic issues (like a slightly rotated or tilted tooth).
In certain cases, bonding can eliminate the need for tooth reduction for full crowns, teeth whitening, or prolonged orthodontic treatment. The procedure is painless and similar to placing a filling for a cavity. In some cases, slight enamel reduction may be required to adjust the tooth’s position; in others, only minimal surface roughening is needed.
Then, a highly aesthetic restorative (filling) material is layered onto the selected tooth or teeth. This material is designed to absorb and reflect light in a way that closely mimics natural enamel. The entire procedure is performed in the dental office and can be completed in one or several visits, depending on the case.
