Intraoral Scanner at Medica 3 Dent – A Real-Time View of Your Teeth

In the World of the Digital Era

With the advancement of 21st-century technologies, the methods for taking dental impressions for restorations such as bridges, crowns, night guards for bruxism, dentures, and others have significantly improved and evolved.

In addition to traditional impression materials like alginate and silicone, impressions can now also be taken with a digital device that displays the result directly on a computer screen.

What is an Intraoral Scanner?

The intraoral scanner is a system that uses special fiber optics and laser technology, allowing it to project an accurate and painless image of your teeth directly on a monitor. It consists of a handheld device with a small scanning head (which eliminates discomfort during use) and specialized software for creating the image.

Procedure

The preparation and execution of this procedure are extremely simple, as it does not require the use of bulky trays or uncomfortable impression materials. After the tooth is prepared for the restoration, the scanning process begins — a quick and pleasant experience, often accompanied by relaxing music and free of unpleasant sensations. The digital impression is then sent to the lab, where the dental restoration is fabricated.

Usually, only two appointments are needed — one to take the impression, and a second to place the finished restoration.

Advantages

The benefits of digitalization in the dental office are significant for both the patient and the dentist:

  • Saves time compared to traditional methods
  • Minimizes discomfort
  • Non-toxic and completely safe for patients
  • High precision and speed
  • Motivates better personal oral hygiene

An Interesting and Useful Tool

The intraoral scanner is not only a fast and accurate tool for taking impressions — it also allows the patient to see the final result of the scan directly on the screen in the treatment room.

Taking a digital impression doesn’t always need to be linked to making dental restorations. It can also be used as a motivational tool to encourage better oral hygiene or as a way to collaborate with the patient on a treatment plan.
